Lets Get Cooking

Let’s get cooking club is now into its’ second year. Highlights this year so far have been when we cooked vegetable soup using home-grown vegetables from our school garden to feed the people who were busy digging, weeding, erecting a greenhouse and other essential maintenance work.

We prepared the food outside - washing, peeling and chopping up carrots, onions, potatoes and other veg. We then cooked the soup indoors. Whilst the soup was cooking, we made an iced traybake cake for pudding. There were lots of favourable comments. The children enjoyed it too.

So far this term we have made burgers, frittata, soup, biscuits amongst other things as well as looking at general food hygiene, contamination of products and healthy eating.

The club is very popular, with a waiting list.

We plan to organise a cookathon - look out for details at the beginning of March.

Lottery funding continues to provide the food for each child to make in school and then take home, as well as allowing us to purchase equipment to encourage baking in lessons in school time as much as possible.
